Program Description
Advanced Dental Residency Education and Community Health (ADREACH) is an innovative dual certificate program offered by Lutheran Medical Center and the University of Michigan. Graduates will earn an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) certificate from Lutheran Medical Center, New York City, and a Masters of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
This new program is designed by a consortium that includes the University of Michigan, Lutheran Medical Center and Center for Family Health (Jackson, MI). Over 24 months, students will learn new advanced skills in clinical dentistry using an innovative web-based courses and practice dentistry in a community health center. Students will also enroll in the MPH program at the School of Public Health, University of Michigan.In June 2006, a combined AEGD/MPH will enroll students who are interested in developing the following skills:
- Clinical dentistry
- Community oral health care
- Dental public health
- Practice management
- Leadership
- Academic education
- Health services research
The program will include clinical training in general dentistry at a community health center, didactic courses in core public health disciplines (epidemiology, biostatistics, health behavior/health education, environmental health, and health management and policy) and didactic courses in advanced general dentistry (patient risk assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, preventative, restorative, endodontics, periodontics, fixed and removable prosthetics, oral surgery, implant dentistry, oral medicine, oral pathology, practice management and literature review). Graduates are expected to learn skills to be successful in community health centers, private practice, dental public health programs, manage clinical operations, consult with health care organizations and dental insurance, and teach in schools of dentistry. Additionally, the new program will have a new residency in dental public health and graduates will be eligible for specialty examination in dental public health.
Tuition and a stipend with benefits are available for qualified dentists who are licensed to practice in the USA.
