The Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) provides a full range of medical specialties and services with more than 250 Board-certified physicians and over 700 nurses on staff.

• Primary care (general health care, usually delivered by health care providers who specialize in family, pediatric or internal medicine, is provided in Anchorage Native Primary Care Center, located across the street from the hospital.
• Tertiary health care (highly specialized medical care that may require the use of specialized medical facilities) is provided in the hospital building itself, as is specialty care (services provided by medical specialists, such as cardiologists, urologists and dermatologists, who generally do not have first contact with patients).
• ANMC also delivers acute care (immediate, short-term, medical treatment for a serious illness or injury) providing full ancillary (lab, radiology, pharmacy, for example) services on site.

ANMC specialists travel year-round to hospitals and health centers in Bethel, Dillingham, Kotzebue, Nome, Barrow, Sitka, Fairbanks, and Kodiak to provide on-site clinics. ANMC has extensive residency training and Native leadership development programs.

SEARHC (Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium) – Juneau

History

SEARHC is a non-profit tribal health consortium of 18 Native communities which serves the health interests of the Tlingit, Haida, Tsimshian, and other Native people of Southeast Alaska. We are one of the oldest and largest Native-run health organizations in the nation.

SEARHC was established in 1975 under the provisions of the Indian Self-Determination Act. The intent of this legislation was to have Indian Health Service programs and facilities turned over to tribal management. Our contracting with IHS began in 1976 when we took over management of the Community Health Aides Program. In 1982, we took over operation of the IHS Juneau clinic and in 1986 we took over operation of Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital.

Clinic Services

Our Juneau Clinic is one of the largest ambulatory care facilities in Alaska. It also has continually been rated among the best in the state with high scores in national accreditation reviews. The Juneau facility includes not only a full service dental clinic but also sizable radiology (including mammography), laboratory, and pharmacy departments. The clinic offers regular ENT, pediatric, orthopedic and other specialty clinics.

Clinic Services

Many visitors to Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital are surprised by the wide range of services and high level of medical expertise available at the facility. Although our emphasis is on family medicine, our hospital medical staff also includes physicians specializing in pediatics,OB/GYN, anesthesiology, radiology, and internal medicine. Hospital services include full service dental, optometry, and mental health clinics.
